In the Solomian district of Kyiv, a neglected industrial zone requires a new approach.

In the Solomianky district of the capital, there is a neglected industrial zone that is not being used effectively. Local residents complain about the lack of shelters, poor sanitation, and accessibility issues. Experts believe that revitalizing such areas could improve the quality of life and make the city more resilient to climate change.

In the Solomyan district of Kyiv, there is an industrial and warehouse complex with old buildings, garages, and enclosed yards, which has been abandoned for many years.

For residential areas, this is not the ideal location, as it lacks the necessary infrastructure: schools and kindergartens, shops, cafes, parks, or other places for recreation. Residents also note the poor sanitary conditions and problems with access to certain facilities, as confirmed by the LUN City Accessibility Map.

Due to the frequent and large-scale attacks, it is important to have reliable shelters near homes. Director of the Department of Environmental Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change of the Kyiv City Administration, Pavlo Ivanov, calls revitalization one of the ways to improve the quality of life and make Kyiv more resilient to climate change.

Revitalization involves rethinking abandoned industrial areas and adapting them to modern needs. For example, in Berlin, the former railway junction was transformed into Park am Gleisdreieck, and in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, the former Philips complex was converted into a creative center.
