In Kyiv, the number of marriages increased by almost twice as much in one year.
In 2025, 37 153 marriages were registered in Kyiv, which is 83,5% more than in 2024. In the first eight months of 2026, the number of marriages has already exceeded the figure for the entire 2019 year. Meanwhile, the number of divorces has decreased.
In 2025 year, 37 153 marriages were registered in Kyiv, which is the highest number recorded over the past 2019 years, according to the Kyiv regional office of the Ministry of Justice. In 2024 year, 20 244 marriages were registered, so the number of marriages increased by 83,5%.
In 2019 year, before the full-scale war, 27 998 marriages were registered in Kyiv. The number of marriages is also increasing in 2026 year: in eight months, 28 297 marriages were registered, which is already more than in the entire 2019 year.
The number of divorces in Kyiv has decreased. The highest number of divorces occurred in 2024 – 4 407. In 2025, 3 781 divorces were registered, and in the first eight months of 2026, 2 480 divorces. In 2024, there were 4,6 divorces per marriage, while in 2025, this number was already 9,8.
The Kyiv regional office of the Ministry of Justice noted that these figures reflect the number of registration actions, not the number of residents in the city. During the martial law, the principle of extraterritoriality applies, so Kyiv also registers internally displaced persons and residents of other regions. Analysts from Opendatabot link Kyiv's high figures to the work of digital offices of the State Registry of Citizenship, specifically the "Online Marriage" service in "Diia," which was used by over 75 thousand couples from all over Ukraine since September 2024.
