Commander of unmanned aerial systems for air defense of the Air Force, Yuriy Cherevashenko, stated before a temporary investigative committee that the 12.7 mm caliber turrets installed in Kyiv were able to detect impacts at a distance of up to 1400 meters. The average effectiveness of use is approximately 28%, but it varies within the range of 20–40% depending on the direction and intensity of attacks. The decision to open fire is made by the operator.
Commander of unmanned aerial systems for air defense of the Air Force, Yuriy Cherevashenko, at a hearing of the temporary investigative committee led by People's Deputy Oleksiy Goncharchenko, spoke about the operation of the towers installed in Kyiv. According to him, the 12.7 mm caliber systems are capable of detecting hits at a distance of up to 1400 meters.
According to the commander, the drones and "Bandroli" were typically shot down at a distance of up to 800 meters. The average effectiveness of using anti-drone systems is approximately 28%, but it varies within the range of 20–40% depending on the direction and intensity of the attacks.
Cherevashenko explained that the discussion is about automated systems that can independently target and track a target, but the decision to fire is always made by the operator. He emphasized that the effectiveness depends not only on the radar's ability to detect the target, but also on the physical capabilities of the machine gun as a weapon.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the installation of more than 12 such turrets in Kyiv and eight automatic combat modules, which are expected to be deployed in the Kyiv region in the near future.
