In November, the Kyiv Oblast Blood Service Center will organize mobile blood donation drives in communities across Kyiv Oblast. Residents of the region are encouraged to become blood donors, as blood is essential for treating injured, seriously ill, and patients who require urgent medical care.
Anyone who is 18 years old or older, weighs more than 50 kilograms, and does not have any medical contraindications can donate blood. Before donating, each potential donor undergoes a mandatory medical examination, during which specialists assess their health and identify any potential contraindications.
Donor blood and its components are used during surgeries, treatment of serious illnesses, oncology, transplants, and the care of premature infants, as well as in providing emergency medical assistance. In times of war, it is particularly important to support wounded military personnel and civilians.
To ensure the donation is safe, it is recommended to avoid taking medications without consulting a doctor 72 hours before donating blood, 48 hours before – alcohol, fatty, smoked, and spicy foods, for a day – dairy products, eggs, bananas, nuts, chocolate, citrus fruits, honey, and seafood, and 2 hours before – smoking. On the day of the donation, it is necessary to have a light and non-fat meal. You need to bring your passport and identification code. Details and additional information about preparing for a donation can be obtained by calling the Kyiv regional blood service center at: 098 639 30 76 and 050 616 94 34.
