Kyiv has established backup power sources for water supply.
In Kyiv, 104 generators and three diesel power plants with a total capacity of 27 MW have been installed to ensure water supply during power outages caused by Russian attacks. The project to develop backup power capacity is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
In Kyiv, backup power sources have been prepared for the water supply system, with a total capacity of approximately 27 MW. This is being done to ensure water supply during power outages that could be caused by Russian attacks. This was announced by Petro Pantelyev, the acting first deputy head of the Kyiv City Administration.
According to an official, 104 generators have been installed at small and medium-sized water supply facilities. Three powerful diesel generator sets with a total capacity of almost 16 MW have been set up at large water intake facilities. Thanks to these backup power sources, the city was able to quickly restore water supply to homes in Kyiv during recent emergency situations related to electricity.
Petro Pantelyev emphasized that standard generators cannot provide electricity to all water supply and sewage facilities in the capital. Some require significantly more power, so a separate energy infrastructure is being created for them. The first phase of construction of power plants with a capacity of 16 MW has been completed. Work is underway to create additional capacity of 40 MW. The completion of the entire project is planned for the end of 2026.
