Kyiv: Compensation for rent for those affected by shelling will be paid until their apartments are repaired.
The Kyiv City Council has updated the "Care. Towards Kyivans" program: compensation for renting temporary housing for Kyiv residents affected by shelling will be paid until their apartments are repaired, not for a maximum of one year. Currently, approximately 1 700 households receive about 20 hryvnias per month, and since the beginning of the year, 488 million hryvnias have been paid out. Assistance has also been introduced for physically injured individuals – either 30, 20, or 10 thousand hryvnias, depending on the severity of the injuries.
The Kyiv City State Administration has updated the city program "Care. Towards Kyivans." Now, Kyiv residents whose apartments were damaged by Russian shelling will receive compensation for temporary housing until their homes are repaired. Previously, such assistance was limited to one year: payments were tied to the budget year, so they could not last longer than 12 months.
This was stated by Deputy Head of the Kyiv City Council, Marina Khonda. According to her, currently, approximately 1 700 households receive around 20 thousand hryvnias per month for temporary housing, and the total amount of assistance to Kyiv residents whose property was damaged or destroyed by shelling since the beginning of the year has reached 488 million hryvnias.
Applications for the monthly payment of 20 thousand hryvnias are submitted through the city's ЦНАПs (local community centers), while applications for a one-time assistance of 10 thousand or 40 thousand hryvnias are made to the district state administrations.
In addition, the city is introducing payments to Kyiv residents who have suffered physical injuries as a result of Russian shelling: the amount of assistance will depend on the severity of the injury – ranging from 10, 20, or 30 thousand hryvnias.
The Kyiv City Council explained the decision to abolish the annual limit by stating that, due to constant shelling and a shortage of construction crews, damaged housing often remains uninhabitable for a much longer period. The program covers both those who have lost their homes completely and those whose windows or doors were damaged by explosions.
