Kyiv: Generators are available in all schools and kindergartens, but only 30% have sufficient power
In Kyiv, 98% of educational institutions already have readiness plans for the heating season, and generators have been installed in all schools and kindergartens in the city. However, only 285 institutions (30%) have backup power that fully covers the calculated load, so the rest will have to purchase or upgrade equipment. Almost 600 million hryvnias have been allocated from the city budget for preparing the educational network for winter.
Deputy Head of the Kyiv City Administration, Valentyn Mondryievsky, at a meeting with heads of district administrations, reported that 98% of educational institutions in Kyiv already have readiness plans for the heating season.
Generators have been installed in all schools and kindergartens in the capital, but only in approximately 285 institutions — about 30% — the backup power supply fully covers the calculated load. The remaining institutions need to purchase additional equipment or strengthen their existing systems. The district administrations need to check the actual needs of each school and kindergarten and equip those where there is a shortage of capacity.
Separately, the Kyiv City Administration is checking shelters: approximately 161 schools — which is about 40% of the municipal schools in the city — are capable of accommodating all students and staff during the school day.
The city emphasizes that the districts need not only to increase the energy resilience of schools and kindergartens, but also to accelerate the restoration of institutions damaged as a result of Russian attacks. Almost 600 million hryvnias have been allocated from the city budget for the preparation of the educational network for winter.
