Kyiv: Approximately 700 generators power boiler houses, heating plants, and pumping stations.
In Kyiv, approximately 700 generators provide backup power to boiler houses and pumping stations, while 155 public water fountains are connected to backup power. According to Peter Pantelyev, there are not enough small generators to meet the main needs of heating and water supply – diesel power plants or cogeneration units are required. Part of the Energy Resilience Plan has already been implemented, and the remaining projects are planned to be completed by the end of the year.
In Kyiv, approximately 700 generators are operating at facilities for heat and water supply, providing backup power to boiler houses, heat plants, pumping stations, and other facilities. This was reported by Petro Pantelyev, the acting first deputy head of the Kyiv City Administration.
According to him, among other things, the 155 drinking fountains have been equipped with backup power, which could serve as an additional source of drinking water in the event of disruptions to the central water supply. However, the small generators are not capable of fully ensuring the operation of the main heating and water supply facilities – this requires the construction of separate diesel power plants or cogeneration units.
Part of the backup power projects within the Energy Resilience Plan have already been built and are operational, while the rest of the city needs to complete them by the end of the year. Due to the mass shelling, the overall energy system of the country is in a very difficult situation: for several regions, emergency power outages have been implemented, while in Kyiv, they are currently in effect for consumers on the right bank, while on the left bank, there are hourly power outage schedules.
Energy workers are working to restore the operation of facilities, and utility workers are gradually stabilizing full water supply in the Holosiiv, Sviatoshyn, Solomianka, and Шевchenkovsky districts, where parameters are currently being reduced. In three districts of the city, where the power supply is worst, "resilience centers" are being established.
