Kyiv residents are urged to wear reflective vests for safety on roads
The police are advising Kyiv residents to use reflective elements on their clothing during the autumn and winter months, when visibility on city streets deteriorates. Reflective strips increase the distance at which a driver can see a pedestrian to 130-150 meters, and with headlights, to 400 meters.
In connection with the decreasing daylight hours during the autumn and winter period, the Kyiv police are urging residents to wear reflective clothing, such as flashing lights. Law enforcement officials emphasize that flashing lights are not just a fashionable accessory, but a necessary means of ensuring the safety of pedestrians on the roads.
According to police data, the distance at which a driver can see a pedestrian with their headlights on is 25 to 30 meters. However, if the pedestrian uses a flashing light, this distance increases to 130 to 150 meters. In the case where the driver uses their high beams, the visibility of a pedestrian with a flashing light can reach 400 meters.
Flickers can come in various types, shapes, and sizes and can be placed on clothing, a bag, or shoes. Reflectors do not lose their properties even in rain or fog, as they reflect the light that falls on them in the opposite direction.
Police officials are urging residents of Kyiv to take precautions and purchase reflective vests for themselves and their loved ones.
